The big advance in the newest version of the Specialized Mio Helmet is the addition of MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). MIPS is designed to protect your head from glancing blows by allowing the helmet to move in a controlled way on impact. This helps to absorb some of the force of a crash, reducing the shock to the brain. Once MIPS has absorbed the initial shock the in-moulded helmet shell will then absorb the bulk of the force.
