This fascinating shrubby succulent makes an interesting house plant for a warm, bright spot in your home. The dark, fleshy leaved rosettes are borne at the top of the branching, woody stems which makes a fantastic architectural display. This tender evergreen needs temperatures above 5C (41F) if they are to survive, but it can be put outside to a patio during the summer months. Aeonium arboreum ' Atropurpureum' is an intriguing plant with an exotic (and somewhat prehistoric) appearance perfect for creating a strong & eye-catching focal point! Aeonium plants should be potted in well drained, sandy or gritty soil in sun or light, semi shade. It can be kept outside in pots for the summer months & moved into a heated greenhouse or conservatory for the winter. As it is a succulent it stores water inside its fleshy leaves which helps them to cope with dry conditions. As they also have shallow roots it can make it more vulnerable in periods of drought. Be sure to water moderately & feed when in active growth. Avoid watering while dormant between late autumn & spring.
