Originating in South Africa. I first came across this beautiful, pure white pumpkin while in Cape Town. It is flatter than most other pumpkins, with pronounced ribbing to the skin. The white skin is a complete contrast to the creamy orange flesh inside. Having a very small seed cavity means that each of these 6.8-9kg (15-20lb) fruits has more usable, sweet flesh inside. Renowned across South Africa, not only for its great storing quality, but for its superb cooking & baking prowess. The skin is easily cut with a sharp knife, rather than needing a saw to cut it like some other pumpkins. Beautiful roasted & served with casseroles, or sprinkle with cumin & bake to make pumpkin chips. Why not take advantage of this ghostly white variety & be the talking point of the town at halloween.
