This is an annual form of ryegrass which is very fast to establish & produce forage. It is the only grass to produce a stem & seed head from a spring sowing making it suitable for the production of hay for horses. It is a very good nitrogen lifter & is very quick to make a large root mass making it suitable as a green manure. It is less expensive than cereal rye & is popular for this reason. It effectively seeks out & mops up nitrate in soil. Used on its own or as a companion with nitrogen fixing vetch. Variety: Westerwolds Ryegrass (Lolium mul. westerwoldicum). Covers Approx. 10squared. The purpose of this mixture is to build soil nitrogen. It is a fast-growing, annual mixture that is at its best when sown into warm soils from May-July. After only 10 weeks the mixture will be ready for incorporation. Ensure that the mixture is topped/incorporated at the onset of flowering so that it does not set seed. Everyone will be able to use the garden, it will be totally accessable for wheelchairs & even for beds if the children cannot leave their beds. How you can help? It's very simple! Time is running out, as this garden is being started this June & it will be so disappointing not having enough funds to finish this magical garden in time for the longest summer days, when children & their families can play, relax, get rest & respite!
