Leave the berries for the birds as they can be harmful if eaten. It is likely to lose most of its leaves in very cold winters but most years it keeps a fair proportion of green leaves, providing mixed native hedges with some winter wildlife cover. It is good at the coast, good in all but the wettest & driest soils, good in shade (as long as the soil is not dry) & good in exposed windy positions.
