A native species, the Blackthorn hedge plant has profuse white flowers on bare black stems in April, followed by small, dark green leaves on the spiny stems & blue sloes in autumn. It's used as the main component of a mixed native hedge for wetter soils or if Hawthorn is the main component, then generally Blackthorn is added in to the mixture. It's use is very popular because of its early flowering & profuse flowering period. Despite its name, it's not terribly thorny. Produces white flowers. Available in packs of 25 or 50 bare root plants & growing 40-60cm or 60-90cm per year.
