Tomatillos are related to tomatoes, but are easier to grow, no staking or nipping out needed. Once the plants get to 30cm (12) tall, they will flop over & touch the floor, producing more branches & more fruit. Dont try & control them, they wont produce as much. They produce a profusion of fruit enclosed in paper husks. Slightly sticky to the touch, the fruit have a tomato & lime taste, perfect in fajitas. Try adding to salads for a zesty kick, they also make fantastic salsa & can be fried too. Sow the seeds in shallow trays of compost in a propagator or on a sunny windowsill in March, transfer them into their final growing positions outdoors in late May/ June when frost danger has passed. Harvest August-October.
