A fantastic tomato variety! Ideal for patios & balconies British bred, taking 15 years breeding to perfect, this is an incredibly productive little plant (up to 75 fruit per plant). Bred by the man who created ' Red Alert' & ' Tumbler'. Very early (mid-July) ripening. Sweet, cherry-sized fruits that were very popular in taste tests. Some blight resistance & resistance to fusarium & verticillium. 12–16g fruit. Loved by Carol Klein at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2019. Finally a great tasting, compact, bush tomato with flavour! Ideal for patios, balconies & anywhere else too small for a regular tomato. Can even be grown in pots as small as 11cm wide. No staking or support required, just water & harvest. Good resistance to Fusarium, Verticillium & some resistance to late blight. Bush Variety. Harvest mid-July– October. Height 21–30cm (8–12); spread 31–40cm (12–16). Tomato Care Once flowers begin to appear, the plants should be fed with a liquid tomato fertiliser at the recommended rate weekly. The growing point should be removed when five or six trusses have formed, as this will encourage the fruits to swell more rapidly & mature more quickly. Keep the plants well-watered, especially when the fruits have started to set. Wide fluctuations in moisture supply may lead to irregular fruit growth, cracking of the skin, & dropping of the fruits. Veranda Red is special because dwarf tomatoes are notoriously lacking in flavour & not that nice tasting, whereas Veranda Red has the flavour of a vine tomato you would grow in your greenhouse, BUT on a small plant. It's taken 15 years to breed the enhanced flavour into this small size & it's from the breeder of Tumbler, Honeycomb & the Crimson family (hence why it's also late blight resistant). I personally think it's a cracking new variety & Nick has been working with Simon & growing it for the last year or two as well. Basically it's all about bringing the flavour of greenhouse cordon tomatoes into a small, easy to care for plant without the hassle of training the plant or needing a greenhouse.
