When Glenfarclas released their first cask strength whisky there was a lot of excitement as it went flying off the shelves. So this time around we expect the same to happen, if not more, due to a new age stamp of 20 years being added to it. It is a limited edition range, creating around 4000 bottles with the cask strength at around 60% ABV, so not a great deal to go around. The official tasting notes suggest that the nose is powerful, with aromas of Demerara sugar & figs, with the end reminiscent of a Christmas cake. The palate is remarkably smooth for a 60% whisky. More sweetness in the front of your mouth, giving way to the bitter sweetness of the chocolate covered coffee bean flavour. Then comes lots of fruits & brandy flavours with delicate sherry tones after a while. Glenfarclas is one of the last family run distilleries left in the world & is owned by the Grant family who have been running it since 1860.
