Greene King can trace its origins back to 1779 when Benjamin Greene set up a family brewing business in the Suffolk town of Bury St Edmunds. In 1887 his grandson Edward Greene joined forces with another local brewer, Frederick King, & the business rapidly evolved into one of the largest breweries in Engl&, with over 148 pubs under its control by 1900.
