Laphroaig 25 year old has been bottled at cask strength in 2011, It was double matured in a combination of the finest Oloroso Sherry & American oak casks making it one of the most unique expressions of Laphroaig. They have been able to keep some things traditional with the 25 year old casks strength, for instance it still has the beautifully bold peat tang that is in the back of almost every Laphroaig. The colour of the Laphroaig 25 year old cask strength is a yellow gold. The nose is rich & sweet giving off aromas of crushed grapes & heather flowers, but always in the background is the distinctive tang of peat. Adding a drop of water releases many more different flavours starting with the sweet sherry fruitiness that develops into the smooth fruits ripeness of pears & red apples. The body is completely complex, with a multitude of different layers inside this whisky. On the palate, the peaty tang disappears due to the over powering cask strength & flavours of spicy apples. Add a drop of water & the gentle softness of age come through & then little by little all the other fruit, spices & peat flavours will the mouth. The finish is very long a slightly dry with a nice peat at the back of the throat.
