Scapa is a distillery that is located on small islands in the most northerly part of Scotl&, between the Atlantic Ocean & the North Sea on the Orkney Isles. 125 years ago a group of Speyside distillers decided that this unique location was the perfect position for the Scapa distillery. Scapa 25 year old malted whisky is created from unpeated barley, fresh spring water from the Lingro burn & the fresh seas air. It breaks the mould when comes to Island malts, it is a lot lighter smoother & delicate. Despite all the change & restoration that has recently occurred at Scapa, they cleverly placed a small number of barrels to rest & mature since 1980 in order to created & exceptional multifaceted single malt whisky. A quarter of a century passed since the barrels were laid to rest in the old dunnage warehouse that looks out onto the North Sea. During maturation, the angel share of the whisky evaporates & creates room in barrel. This room is then filled with fresh seas air that is constantly moving in & out of the Scapa distillery. The result is often described as slightly salty tang or a dry aftertaste on the palate. To sum up Scapa 25 year old, you would have to say that the flavour, aroma & overall characteristic of this whisky is one you will never experience from any mainland whisky.
