It's rallying & offroading combined on this driving challenge in Silverstone! Taking place at this renowned rally school you have the best of both worlds here with a session on the 4x 4 circuit & sessions on the rally stage too. A brilliant combination for motorsport fans! First up the off roading. This is one of the best circuits we've seen in a while. This Silverstone course has been well laid out to offer all levels of driver a real challenge. There are some fab features too like the see-saw & tricky troughs to negotiate. You'll be tackling all this bumpy stuff in a Suzuki Vitara. Modified to cope with the extremeness of the course you'll be amazed at what you can get this modest 4x 4 to do. & don't forget to look at the tilt measurement on the dashboard
- it's pretty full-on when you see the angles you're driving at. Next it's over to the rally school paddock. Here you'll find a fine fleet of proper rally cars. There's the front wheel drive Ford Escort Mk II (a classic!) the modified rear wheel drive Imprezas (madness!) & the all wheel drive Scoobie too (awesome!). These cars are all rallying stalwarts & you'll love them all. On your adrenaline rally session it's all about learning the classic rally moves. Over a trio of drives you'll master handbrake turns on the hairpins (with a blast on the fast straights too) & slides on the 200m sweeping bend. You also get the chance to try out your doughnut skills on the pan

The off road sessions are all on a one-to-one basis & for the rallying you'll be in small groups taking it in turns behind the wheel for each session. If you're looking for proper 4x 4 driver training this BORDA accredited centre is the place to go! BORDA is the British Off Road Driving Association & these 4x 4 training experiences follow their ' Standard' Level course itinerary to get you a certificated pass at the end of it all. Set in the North Nottinghamshire countryside this BORDA training centre is well-placed to offer official off road tuition. The site is pretty impressive with over 40 acres of terrain much of which has been made into purpose-built courses & trails dedicated to off road vehicles. Routes have been designed to offer everything from typical mild-level terrain that you find in the UK to more extreme elements to show off what the vehicles can do. The aim of this course is to get you proficient & knowledgeable in how 4x 4s work & how you drive them in certain settings that involve mud grass snow & ice. Nothing too steep or extreme to begin with as these sessions are all about getting you to really understand why & how the car reacts & as the driver what you should do. It's fascinating stuff. With highly-experienced BORDA certified drivers hosting you'll learn how 4x 4 systems work (there are several different ones with permanent & semi-permanent four wheel drive for example) & how to prepare the vehicle for going off road. It's not simply a case of jumping in ignition on & away you go. You need to be prepared no matter how 'gnarly' your vehicle is! We have to say this Coniston 4x 4 experience is really rather swanky as they have the smartest fleet of off-roading vehicles ever seen this side of Skipton! At the start of the session these 4x 4s are all in show-room condition with freshly polished gleaming paintwork so let's see if you can get the mud splashes up to the windows... This Coniston estate between Settle & Skipton is the perfect place for a spot of 4x 4ing in the Dales. Well away from any form of public road the land around Coniston Hall is vast. We're talking over 1400 acres. & the best thing about the 4x 4 experience here? The fact that it is purpose-built to give you a both an obstacle route that gives you challenge after challenge in rapid succession as well as meandering trails that cross the seemingly endless moorlands & duck in & out of the forest too. In fact you can go as full-on or as cruisey as you like. The Coniston team ensures each experience is geared towards each driver so if you want to push the car to its limits you can or you can go on a gentler voyage of discovery into the world of offroading North Yorkshire-style. What's more you can invite up to three passengers to ride with you & if you book an hour or two hour session you can even let them share the driving with you so everyone can have a little go.
