sessions are Barry and
Luce. Originally from
Machynlleth Barry has
worked around the world
in the realms of
conservation ornithology
as a safari teacher and
tour leader. Now back in
the rolling Welsh
countryside of Powys
Barry works with Luce
tending to their birds of
prey and promoting their
conservation efforts.
Luce specialises in
animal behaviour and
environmental issues and
she has been involved in
exotic species for many
years. Together they are
a dedicated and
passionate team caring
for their family of
raptors. So it's with the
Cambrian mountain range
as you backdrop that you
will be invited to meet
these majestic birds with
Barry and Luce. You might
meet the likes of Lakota
the Bald Eagle Isca the
Red Kite Maggie the White
Faced Owl and Altai the
magnificent Golden Eagle
who also happens to be a
film star! All the
feathered residents here
in mid-Wales have been
bred in captivity and
your hosts will explain
to you why this is an
important measure in the
conservation of the
species. And whilst you
get to know the
individual characters and
personalities of each
bird you'll also learn
lots about looking after
birds of prey and the
relationship between bird

Get ready to meet Loki on
this raven experience!
You don't have to go to
the Tower of London to
meet the ravens this
cheeky chappy is a
bonafide Essex resident
and he loves nothing more
than showing off in front
of an audience! Ravens
are one of the largest
crows. Also known as one
of the Corvus species
they're easily
distinguishable by their
size their glossy black
plumage and their rather
impressive croaky call.
Loki was named after the
Norse god of mischief and
trickery - and the team
will tell you that he
certainly lives up to his
name. Loki is a highly
intelligent bird who was
totally stealing the
limelight during the
falconry shows so much so
that he has been given
his very own experience.
You'll meet lovely Loki
the raven and really get
to know him. He really is
quite a character. He
knows loads of tricks
(playing the xylophone to
let your handler know
you're a bit peckish
anyone?) and loves
solving puzzles. He's
super friendly too. He
adores flying in and
perching on your shoulder
(especially when he
thinks there's a chance
he might be rewarded with
a little titbit of food!)
and relishes human
interaction. He can be
really quite a chatty
raven and will have you
completely enthralled. In
essence Loki is a real
crowd pleaser and
entertainer. These raven
experiences give you
around 30-minutes with
the star turn Loki.
You'll be in a small
group of up to six people
and every session is
hosted by a member of the
falconry team. As well as
meeting and interacting

bailey for spending a day

feathered creatures as
they majestically soar

wonderful Hedingham
Castle is actually a
privately-owned home
(albeit one that is open
to the public during the
summer as well as hosting
weddings and other
events) with an imposing
square keep and the
immaculately-kept
gardens. It's also the
perfect location for a
spot of falconry - the
sport of Kings.You will
spend the day with both
the human and winged team
here at Hedingham. The
castle sits in around 160
acres of grounds so
there's plenty of room
for the raptors to fly
and show off their
hunting skills. With
fields and hedgerows too
it's the ideal natural
habitat that these birds
just love to explore and

and interacting with them

equipment nothing much
has changed since
Medieval times. The
falconer's main tools of
the trade still include
jesses anklet sets hoods
and chaps often hand-made

the addition of fleece
and other technical
fibres to keep your hands
warm!And of course the
relationship between bird
and falconer is just as

lane from the wonderfully
named Luggiebank village
