Experience some of the most amazing lift conditions possible in a glider with our Black Mountains gliding adventure! Soar above the imposing peaks and take in all the spectacular scenery of Mid Wales from 2 000ft in the air whilst learning what it takes to become a glider pilot with mid-air tuition. This friendly aero club is at 970ft above sea level at the foot of the Black Mountains in Powys a gliding mecca for those in the know. The unique topography of the area around the airfield means that average flight times from Talgarth Airfield are some of the longest in the whole of the UK as you can catch thermal mountain and ridge lifts all keeping you soaring and gaining height for as long as possible. In fact the record altitude from this unique mountain setting is a head-spinning 32000ft!There are four options to choose from at this glider club - one-to-one sessions for between one and three tows or an experience for two where each of you will receive an individual flight. All sessions include tuition and instruction before you get towed up by the club's Pawnee tug plane and released. There thousands of feet up in your own glider you'll experience the full majesty of the Black Mountains as you glide over the Brecon Beacons National Park in a silent graceful flight back down to earth. All of the Black Mountains glider flights last a minimum of 20 minutes but thanks to the aforementioned thermals airtime is frequently much longer. Because all the gliders are dual control this isn't just a pleasure flight - you'll be invited to take the controls under the strict supervision of your gliding instructor enabling you to seize the proverbial piloting reins on every session.Every Black Mountains instructor is fully BGA (British Gliding Association) qualified and the great advantage of this venue is that the club is open all year round so you can opt for a flight over the snow-capped mountains in winter or take in a stunning Welsh sunset during the long summer days. Perfect for flying enthusiasts or anyone wanting to enjoy the Welsh countryside from a new perspective Black Mountains gliding is an unforgettable aeronautical excursion.
Vintage Slingbsy glider flights - good old fashioned open-cockpit gliding now available! This is your chance to fly in a rare Slingsby T21 glider. The vintage soaring machine is still very much a favourite and it's a real honour to be able to offer flights in a stunning example of the classic T21. Known as 'Daisy' this T21 was built in 1951. Designed and built in the UK by Slingsby the very first T21s took to the sky in 1944. They were used by RAF Air Cadets for training right up until the 1980s proving that this graceful bird has real staying power. Now many are in the hands of private owners and glider clubs who lovingly preserve these wonderful machines. These Slingsbys look quite different to modern gliders. Affectionately called 'The Barge' it's easy to say why with that wide flat boat-like hull. Unusually the T21 has a side-by-side configuration compared to most gliders that are tandem with one person sitting behind the other. But the major difference is that this baby is open cockpit. That means you are completely open to the elements making a flight in a vintage Slingsby glider with its 54ft wingspan the nearest you'll get to being a bird! Resplendent in her RAF trainer colours Daisy is a magnificent sight in the sky. Loved by RAF cadets (and their instructor trainers) for being robust stable with rather sedate flying qualities the T21 is pure gliding joy. With her distinctive looks Daisy is a real head turner. Your flight will be a winch-launch giving you around 10-minutes of soaring in the skies above Bicester. Being the elegant lady of a certain age that she is Daisy can only fly in clement weather so please be patient with her. If your booked flying date is cancelled you can choose to rebook or take a flight in one of the club's modern gliders. We have to say flying with one of the country's oldest glider clubs at one of the oldest airfields (RAF Weston-on-the-Green is still an active RAF base too boot) in a classic vintage Slingsby glider is a true delight. Anyone who is into silent flight will absolutely love this experience. Buy your voucher now and book your seat in this historic open-cockpit vintage glider. It's going to be quite a flight.

Go gliding in Yorkshire with Burn Gliding Club for the winged experience of a lifetime over the hills and moors! This North Yorkshire centre is situated on an ex-WWII bomber command airfield near Burn outside Selby and offers unparalleled aerial views of the scenic surroundings and a birds-eye perspective of God's own county. What's more its rural location means that summertime sunshine creates plenty of localised rising currents of air (or thermals) thanks to what the Burn gliding team refers to as the 'Pennine wave' giving your glider that extra boost to keep you airborne for even longer. In winter the plumes from the three nearby power stations of Drax Eggborough and Ferrybridge recreate this thermal lift effect even when there's snow on the ground everywhere else making this a unique setting for gliding. All glider experience days at this Yorkshire airfield begin with a brief welcome then it's out to the runways to find out which of the club's many twin-seater gliders you'l...
Gliding in Lincolnshire comes in three guises: you can be towed up by a tug plane you can be winched up on a cable or you can propel yourselves up into the blue skies of Lincolnshire in a glider with its own motor. All are great ways to see the patchwork quilt countryside of the East Midlands and we've got a full range of flight options available for you. he flight and aircraft type for these experiences at Saltby Airfield in Lincolnshire will be chosen by your instructor on the day primarily to suit your needs as well as taking into account things like weather equipment and pilot availability. We are offering the Introductory Flight taster the Glider Lesson option that gives you around 20 minutes of airborne time (one flight or spread across multiple flights) and the one day course giving you a full day at this Lincolnshire aerodrome with two or more flights. The winch tow offers a quicker launch to a lower altitude. You'll then be able to enjoy a smooth leisurely flight back to the airfield - but be warned your ascent is anything but slow and gentle! The winches take you from 0-60 mph in around three seconds providing a blast of adrenaline before allowing you to take in the spectacular views that a glider flight in Lincolnshire offers at a slightly more sedate pace. On aerotows the club's tug plane takes you up to around 1 500-2 000ft before detaching leaving your gliding soundlessly across the Lincolnshire skies as your instructor explains and demonstrates the controls of this elegant aircraft. And finally for a spot of gliding at this Lincs airfield with a difference there's the glider with a motor. This self-propelled aircraft still looks like a traditional sailplane with the large wingspan but it is equipped with a motor and propeller. That means you actually take off like a standard light aircraft before gaining altitude and then turning the engine off to then glide gracefully back down to earth. As well as the flexibility with flight times and aircraft this club plays another ace card by operating seven days a week (weather depending). It is also handily located near to the motorways and major A-roads making gliding in Lincolnshire accessible for glider fans from all over the East Midlands.
