Junior offroading in
Staffordshire - a chance
for the kids to get
behind the wheel of a

just for children are
hosted by the Stafford
Driving Centre where the
team will take your keen
teen out in a fabulous
4x4 - and your child will
be the one driving. This
crew in Staffordshire has
created a fantastic off
road route. It's away
from the main tarmac race
circuit and covers a
decent-sized area with a
mix of surfaces and
terrains to tackle. All
the classic off-road
obstacles feature from
steep mounds and perilous
descents to axle-twisting
rutted paths and water
splashes too. Any kid who
knows anything about
offroading will know
there's only one vehicle
for this job: the Land
Rover Defender. These
legendary offroaders have
pounded the mountains
jungles and deserts all
over the globe so a bit
of tricky Staffordshire
countryside should be

are cool. Land Rover
Defenders in particular
are very cool. A classic
Landy that has a very

vehicle is pretty much
the pinnacle of coolness

drives in Newcastle.
Affectionately known as
'Red One' by this
Newcastle team the long
wheel base Landy
certainly looks the part.
Rugged reliable and a
real hero of the off road
world the much praised
Red One has a very
special role with this
crew. Often seen leading
the charge on the public
roads Red One escorts the
huge low-loaders that are
used to transport things
like tanks and other
heavy military vehicles
around. And we have to
say Red One is a proper
workhorse Landy just like
they were always meant to

in the North Yorkshire
countryside it's

Hard-to-please teens will
be kept seriously

There's no need to risk
your own family car
either as the school has
their own 4x4s that they
are totally prepared to
let the young ones drive
- and it helps that they
are automatic so no gear
changes to think about.
You might be wondering
how an adolescent can
even drive one of these
things? Well it's a bit
like the age old tale of
the hare and the
tortoise. A bulky heavy
4x4 vehicle on this
tricky off road terrain

going very fast but it
will make sure and steady
progress. And at such low
speeds the instructors
have found most kids have
no problem at all picking
up the skills that
