Bright ruby red in colour, this wine has typical perfumes of morello cherry, cinnamon & spice. On the palate it has wonderful elegance & balance together with excellent concentration & silky tannins softened by cask & bottle ageing. Spiced red berry fruit characters are supported by an attractive savoury character, with a hint of liquorice on the long finish. Fermentation took place on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for two weeks. The wine was aged in wood for 36 months in total
- 12 months in medium toasted Allier tonneaux (5 hectolitres) followed by 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels (30 hectolitres). After bottling, the wine rested for a further 12 months before release. Virtually no rain fell at the beginning of 2012 & temperatures were cool. Much-needed light rain fell in late May & early June. Summer was very hot & dry & water reserves were almost completely exhausted. Fortunately, gentle but sufficient rain arrived in mid-August reviving the leaves & fruit, which had become almost completely wilted & deflated, allowing them to spring back to life to become full & healthy in time for harvest.
