This wine is very pale in its youth, but with time will develop straw & light gold tints. Stonefruit dominates the nose of this wine; peaches, nectarines, apricots. Mingled with this are floral notes (lemon flower & orange flower) backed by gentle spice notes. Viognier is a low acid variety so the palate is broad, rich & weighty. The wine coats the tongue from front to back & side to side & the finish lasts & lasts. The wine is technically dry, but the fruit character is so strong that it gives the appearance of sweetness. This adds to the flavour intensity & length. Vintage 2009 was extraordinarily settled in Gisborne & this allowed us to get stunning flavour development in our Viognier vineyards.
