2009 was a superb season memorable for the duration & sunny warmth of its hazy Autumn. Early vine regulation limited crop to just one bunch per shoot which ensured the fruit's natural concentration. After a hands on, open top vinification including hand plunging & delestage, the components were allowed an extended post-ferment maceration. Once complete the batches were settled & run to French oak barriques, just over half of which were new. With 14 months in oak, malolactic fermentation slowly took place enhancing texture & stabilizing the wine's structure. From separate parcels the final blend was assembled, then bottled without fining & only a light filtration. Deep red in colour & laced with dark aromas of black dorris plum & cigar box. The palate has good intensity, smooth in texture with elegant rounded tannins. Subtle notes of bramble & cranberry lead into an elegant, long finish. Enjoy now with fillet steak & garlic butter or cellar dark & cool for a decade.
