A precise & focused vintage showing its signature nose of confected cherry, sweet spice & rose melding with smoke, wild herbs & a saline edge. The palate is a touch richer & more opulent than its predecessor, with dark chocolate, soy, plum & aniseed adding a savoury counterpoint to the lifted, fresh red fruit. Grippy, slightly waxy tannin & bright acidity hold everything in balance, making for an extraordinarily long finish & guaranteeing ageing through 2035. Scenes from a movie based on the life of Napoleon were shot on the Cinma site the year before vineyards were introduced, which gave this wine its name. This Cuve is a selection of barrels made from said single vineyard, a premium site in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge that was meticulously designed to produce the highest quality Pinot Noir with the planting of high-density vines using disease-free Dijon clones
