The pink stone & granitic Heissenberg (the 'hot mountain') soil imparts richly smoky fruit, a fuller more alcoholic impact, notes of orange peel & clove, that reminds one of Zind Humbrecht's St. Urbain Rangan de Thann in character. The heat in the vineyard during summer can be suffocating, says Andre, yielding slightly lower acidity, more peach power & mandarin, with syrupy intensity. Impressive but needs more time to come round.
