The Glass Collection Merlot is a deep rich coloured wine. It displays intense dark fruit aromas & spicy plums with touches of spearmint on the edge. This Merlot shows tremendous concentration, richness & generous fruit on the palate with fine but well structured & balanced tannins to embrace it all. The grapes were hand sorted & lightly crushed into stainless steel fermentation tanks. They were given a cold soak for three days before allowing the natural fermentation to start. Three pump overs a day were done on the tanks during fermentation, after which they underwent extended skin contact for 2-3 weeks. The wine was placed in French oak barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation. Matured for 12 months in French oak & rack on average every four months. Cool Winter ensured a good bud burst, it was 9 days early. Cool conditions during berry set lead to loose bunches. Berry size was smaller than other years. Lady May is Glenelly's Flagship Estate wine. Elegant & complex, the wine develops flavours of cassis, blackcurrant, dark cherry, touch of graphite & delicate spicy plum. Fresh & vibrant, the evolution of the wine introduces flavours specific to Glenelly's terroir. Deeply coloured & perfectly balanced, the wine displays an exquisite structure with velvety tannins & a very good aging capability. The grapes were lightly crushed into stainless steel tanks. The fermentation was done by natural yeast with a mixture of rack & returns & open pump overs. We did post fermentation skin contact for 2-3 weeks & pressed gently. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barrels. The wine stayed on the lees for a long period of time before racking. Racked on average every 4 months. Matured for 24 months in new French oak barrels. During the aging, the wine is clarified with natural egg whites & bottled later. Can age during 12 to 18 years Post 2009 harvest temperature to January were higher. Cool Winter ensured a good bud burst, it was 9 days early. Cool conditions during berry set lead to loose bunches.
