Pulenta's La Flor range is part of a trilogy of excellence, the other components being the Estate wines & then, at the top, the Gran Corte family. La Flor wines are bottled young in order to capture naturally ripe & exuberant fruit, & are made for relatively early drinking. Farmed at 1000 metres in the fashionable Lujan De Cuyo enclave of Mendoza, these Cabernet Sauvignon grapes enjoy a brief cold pre-fermentation maceration, which extracts colour & adds a real precision & purity to the fruit expression. The fruit in this instance is dominated by plum & cassis, with a backdrop of spice, loganberry, eucalypt & bell pepper. A short period in barrel has added notes of vanillin & tobacco, yet the tannins are soft & the wine is approachable. Good, as always, with roasts & hard cheeses.
