This rum represents the distinctively flavourful & aromatic style that made Jamaican rum famous. Containing only heavier bodied Wedderburn & medium bodied Plummer pot still distillates, famous for their notes of exotic fruits & spice & fermented using a local strain of yeast indigenous to Jamaica, Smith & Cross delivers a tour de force of flavour & complexity that historically made Jamaica Rum a cornerstone of many classic drinks. Here we offer a blend of Approx. equal parts Wedderburn & Plummer, the former aged for less than a year, & the latter blended from rums that have spent between 18 months & 3 years in white oak barrels. This rum is blended at 57% ABV (or 100 English proof). This was the traditional strength required by the British Royal Navy. At this proof a spill of the spirits would not prevent gunpowder from igniting. The nose is extremely aromatic & pungent with hints of alcohol that you would expect from this 57% ABV Jamaican pot still rum. Pineapple & ripe banana combine with more intense notes of tobacco, cocoa, cloves, cinnamon & spice to give a very intense nose. A real burst of flavour hits your tongue as it is tantalised by the high alcohol & intensity of the pot still distillates. Initially sweet, sugar & caramel notes dominate, this sweetness then gives way to the intense fruit notes from the nose but this time with more developed character of prunes, sultanas & caramelised orange peel before more leathery, spicy, vanilla & tobacco notes take over. A long, long, warming finish driven by the high alcohol, sweet & spiciness. The great tradition of this style is reflected in the famous drink recipes that call specifically for Jamaica rum. Make no mistake, this is not a sipping rum by contemporary standards. We suggest exploring the profile first in the Jamaica Rum Daiquiri & from there to other classics. ...

Smith Woodhouse - 10 Year Old Tawny 75cl Bottle

Excellent tawny colour gained through ageing in small oak barrels. The nose shows layers of mature fruit aromas, beautifully integrated with nuances of nuts and crystallized dried fruits. On the palate very smooth and mellow, with a well-balanced and long finish. Smith Woodhouse's 10 Years Old Tawny is a perfect match to sweet pastries, such as apple pie with cinnamon. Taste slightly chilled to appreciate the full complexity and sensuous pleasure of this wine. An excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions. Will keep for some weeks after opening. 90 out of 100 points Another Symington family brand that often shows well, Smith Woodhouse 10 year old is big and firm, quite tannic even, and very rich and dry. This is a good, solid, powerful wine, with great
finishing acidity. Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, August 2006 Lots of dried fruit, toffee and caramel on the nose. Full-bodied and very sweet, with lots of fruit and a medium toffee finish... I like it. James Suckling, Wine Spectator, 15th September 2003
