Classic fluffy flower spikes in a rich crimson colour adorn Astilbe japonica ' Montgomery' in early summer. Unusually, the clumps of divided foliage emerge bronze in the spring before becoming green by summer. Also known as False Goatsbeard, Astilbe make a super addition to woodland areas, cottage gardens or patio containers where they will thrive in difficult damp spots in partial shade.
