Purchase your garden ready plugs here at Dobies in packs of 12 & start growing your own tiger nuts today. Tiger nuts are an easy to grow grass that produces masses of intensely sweet tubers (not actual nuts). They are bigger than peanuts, tasting like almonds & coconut. They are easiest grown in a container. When you receive your plants, just pot them up into a container that is 10-12 large. Use a good quality compost & put some gravel at the bottom for good drainage. Keep the plants watered & feed with seaweed. Move your pots outside after the last frost & keep them in a sunny spot, alternatively they can be grown in a greenhouse or tunnel. The nuts are ready to harvest when the grass dies back naturally in the late autumn. Turn your pot upside down & shake off all the soil, then wash them thoroughly before eating. You can use the nuts fresh or dry them for later use. They can be chopped & added to any dish, they are great for smoothies or to make nut milk & nut butters. You can rehydrate them by soaking them for 24 hours. Perfect to use as a nut-free peanut alternative. ...

The Tiger worm (Brandling worm/ Manure Worm Eisenia fetida) is very good at the rapid processing of Organic waste into nutrient rich compost, we often get asked which type of worm is best for composting, in short the answer is probably a mixture of both dendrobaena worms & tiger worms as both types have a huge appetite & both species have a slight difference in ‘needs’ so combining both dendrobaena & tigers in the wormery (they only breed with their own species & live quite happily together) ensures the wormery works efficiently. ...

Supplier Information

Dobies
Dobies is a gardener's dream come true! Since 1880, Dobies has been supplying UK gardeners with the seeds, plants, and supplies that they need in order to help their gardens grow. In recent years they have been consistently rated as one of the best garden suppliers in the UK. Dobies does not sell seed varieties which are the result of genetic modification, choosing to sell non-modified varieties of seeds, bulbs, and plants. They also offer a variety of vegetable seeds and plants in their annual catalogue, making Dobies a smart choice for those looking to begin working on their own allotment. Dobies also offers a wide range of garden equipment so that gardeners can properly take care of their plants. Priding themselves on their history as an indispensable asset to gardeners, Dobies of Devon has more than earned a reputation as one of the best gardening suppliers in the UK.
