Cockburns Fine Tawny port is a blend of fine young wines from various harvests that are aged for Approx. three years in small wood barrels. They use small barrels in order to hasten the ageing process; this allows the wine to evolve into a red amber colour that acquires a silky feel & nutty flavour. Much like the ' Fine Ruby', the ' Tawny' is filtered before bottling, but the Tawny is a smoother & mellower drink to its counterpart. The Cockburn's Fine Tawny is made from a lighter skinned grape found in the Lower Douro region that is perfectly suited for tawny wine. While the tawny is maturing in wood, it loses some of its colour & rich texture but instead it acquires a classic nutty/butterscotch flavour. This port pairs well with rich creamy desserts or serve with almonds & pecans. ...

Cockburn's Late Bottled Vintage 2006 port is made up of grapes from a single harvest & is aged in oak casks for up to 6 years before being bottled. Cockburn's LBV is an intense port with a strong character. On the eye, it is a deep blood red with an aroma of mulberry, summer fresh fruits, mainly red berries & chocolate. On the palate it feels full bodied with some complexity from when it was aging in wood creating a very intense sensation. It is extremely balance with a lingering enjoyable finish. This port would go well with strong cheese, most notably blue cheese or one similar. It would also complement many nuts, in particular brazil nuts & dark chocolate dishes, but not necessarily desserts. Serve at cool room temperature or if preferred very slightly chilled. ...

Cockburn's Special Reserve port is created from a variety of high quality grapes, which are all hand picked by Cockburn's master pickers. Most the grapes are picked from Cockburn's own vineyard but a few are specially selected from neighbouring vineyards, all however are pricked from the spectacular upper Douro valley. The blend is made with four-fifths being from young youthful wines with the remainder from more mature wines which give the port roundness & a seductive, velvety feel. Aged for longer than other reserve ports in seasoned oak vats to achieve the perfect balance between vibrant youthful fruit & the smooth silky finish which the ageing in wood provides. In 2010 Cockburn's was taken over by the Symington family whose number one gold was to restore the Special Reserve to the premium leading port it used to be. Since the take over the Special Reserve has won a collection of prizes at all the major international wine competitions restoring its status as the benchmark for reserve port. The port is ready to drink & gentle filtration at the winery ensures that decanting is not necessary. Special Reserve is in its element served with rich dark chocolate desserts, fruit tats, berry or nutty puds & complements most cheeses incredibly well. ...
