Whilst other aged Tawny's are categorised under specific age designations, the Tawny is Graham's individual reflection of what is a fine wood matured Tawny port. Graham's 10 year old is made from wines of the very highest quality, only after careful selection are they matured in seasoned oak cask of 534 litres until their peak of maturity is reached. Tawny's are among the most demanding & challenging styles of port to produce requiring great skill & years of experience from the winemaker & blender. Getting the correct balance is essential in creating a Tawny, you need to keep the elegance & delicacy from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure & longevity. The age of the wines selected for the final blend ranges from 7 to 9 years old, enough to have gained an attractive smooth texture & nutty character, whilst at the same time, young enough to retain the delicious rich fruit & spice flavours. Graham's award-winning top winemaker, Charles Symington, personally selected this port out of 14 other casks. With each bottle being hand numbered and personally bottled by the bottling manager, it is also accompanied by its own certificate of ownership. Not only is the spirit inside the bottle excellent but the bottle itself has been designed in house by Graham's using the highest quality materials. Each flask is protected by a handmade padded leather tube and a solid oak cap that doubles up as a display plinth. The 1961 Colheita shows a vivid rich amber colour with a suggestion of a green tinge on the rim. On the nose you get an explosion of multiple
aromas including caramel, nuts hints of vanilla and cigar. On the palate it is concentrated creating a complex palate revealing honeycomb, exotic spiced and orange peel flavours.
