Greene King brew their diverse range of craft beers in the art-deco surrounds of the St Edmund's Brewhouse in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, using over 25 varieties of hops including Cascade, Fuggles, East Kent Goldings, Galaxy & Williamette. The Brewhouse is named after the 9th Century Saxon ruler King Edmund of East Anglia, who, according to legend, the Vikings tortured & killed when he refused to renounce Christianity. Greene King Strong Suffolk is made from a blend of two ales: Old 5X, which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) & left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years; & BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer -- strong, dark, malty & intense. Gold Medal winner at the 2014 Monde Selection Quality Awards.
