Late Bottle Vintages represent a selection of the very fine full bodied red ports from a single year. They are bottled late, remaining in wood between four & six years. Taylors 2007 Late Bottle Vintage (LBV) was first feared it would never come to pass. Due to the winter preceding the 2006 harvest being extremely cold & dry, leaving the reserves for water severely depleted after an already dry & hot 2006. This in turn, meant that the growing season started later than usual, mainly down to the cold weather & shortage of water. The grapes produced in the whole of the growing season were marked by lower vigor & small berry size, but it also meant that if the harvest was complete, the grapes could be more flavoursome than usual. Although the rainfall was short & limited, in the heat & drought like conditions, the ripening process continued as normal, although at a slower pace than usual. Fortunately, the dry summer conditions were relieved by steady rainfall, giving the vines the critical relief that they needed, enabling them to complete the ripening process & deliver a perfectly ripe & well balanced crop with huge potential. The colour of the Taylors 2006 LBV is a deep ruby colour. The nose is elegant & combines fresh & intense blackcurrant & cherry aromas with subtle notes of liquorice & spice.
