It has now been transformed into the Lee Valley White Water Centre and it’s open to everyone who fancies making a bit of a splash in the fast-moving flow!
As this is Hertfordshire (and not the Bahamas) you’ll get a wetsuit wet boots and buoyancy aid to keep you warm on the rapids. You’ll listen to a safety briefing talk on dry land and then you’ll carry out essential safety tests with experienced raft guides before taking to these Lee Valley waters.
These exercises include things like working together in the raft to shift bodyweight and adopting the ‘down’ position on the floor of the raft. You’ll then have a short swimming assessment where you’ll learn to lie on your back with your feet up and pointing downstream. After that there’s just time to have a go at catching and using the line to get back to the water’s edge.
Now it’s Raft o’Clock and you’re off riding the white waters of Lee Valley with your comrades and onboard guide. It’s exhilarating fast-paced and gallons and gallons of fun out there. Anyone coming along to watch can hang out at The Terrace Bar & Café which boasts a funky design and great views of this Olympic course.

No paddling required you'll use the natural flow to go downstream. You'll be setting off from Darley Dale a lovely corner of the Peak District National Park to river tube all the way to Matlock Bath. Before you launch yourself into the waters you'll meet with your instructors who will get you kitted out in a wetsuit and helmet. You will be taking the leap of faith into fast moving waters clinging on to your trusty hydrospeed to ride the rapids in a river boarding extravaganza at this very special water sports centre near London.The Legacy Loop you'll be hydrospeeding down was used during the London 2012 Olympics as a practice run. Now it's a white water centre for all with a huge range of activities on offer. None more so madcap than hydrospeeding. In essence it's like a big foamy float with the front shaped like the bow of a boat to help you bosh through the fast-flowing water. All budding hydrospeeders do an activity assessment before being let loose on the course. This is so the instructors can make sure you're confident enough in the water. Take on the rapids with our White Water Rafting Fort William experience! The starting point for your rafting is just south of the historic Fort Augustus and the whooshing white waters will have you paddling like mad on the River Garry and working as a team to make a successful descent.So you and your fellow white water rafters will be out on the River Garry. What's unique about this river is that it is dam-released meaning the waters are controlled and you can expect a good flow in both summer and winter months and when the gushing white water is manually released at the source near Fort William that's when you can find yourself really rafting!This session has been graded 3 to 4 which means it is a quite challenging course but there will be a qualified International Rafting Federation guide with you in the raft and you will have the best equipment available for your Fort William mission!For your white water rafting Fort William session you will be part of a small group out on the waters of the Garry river in the inflatable raft alongside an instructor/guide. You'll have a paddle in hand and as you go head on into the dips and drops there's no point in ducking as you will be getting wet! You can also expect to go sideways and generally have a thrilling time negotiating these white waters near Fort William that can be seriously rushing during the height of the rafting season.
