Make mead make wine and be happy! These half day courses teach you everything you need to know about making traditional mead or wine. All the equipment and material is included and you even get to take home 5l of your mix to continue the process at home. Described as the 'nectar of Gods' Mead is the ancestor of all alcoholic drinks. Loved by the Vikings the Egyptians the Greeks and even the Romans (who had a penchant for wine!) mead is once again increasing in popularity. And wine of course never goes out of fashion. For the wine making you will be able to choose a fruity or a traditional wine. That's to say you might plump for a nice refreshing Elderflower a delicious Cherry wine or a tasty Apricot wine to name but three of the wine kit options available. If they don't float your boat you can also make traditional dry or medium red white or rosé wines using of course grape juice! For the mead making you'll learn how it's the sweet elixir produced by those busy bees that is the essential ingredient for this Medieval tipple. The fermentable sugar comes from the honey when it's mixed with water and yeast. It sounds like a simple recipe but there a fair few things you need to know such as calculating alcohol content getting the quantities of ingredients right and so on. Both courses are hosted and led by Steve. He keeps his own bees to make the honey and he's been making wine and mead the traditional way for many years. He loves nothing better than teaching how you can make these craft beverages for yourself. As well as benefiting from all Steve's knowledge and experience you will get to start the process taking it from the base ingredients to commencing the fermenting. Each course participant will have a 5l recipient of their wine or mead to take home with them along with everything you need to continue the process right to the final bottling stage. One voucher covers both course options so as the lucky recipient you can select whether you'd like to make mead or wine at the time of booking the course date. Great fun and interactive too we'll drink to these wine and mead making courses - cheers!
