- & the answer is a big fat glorious yes! On this thrilling junior tank driving experience it’ll actually be your little ones who’ll be driving the FV432 Armoured Personnel Carrier. Hold on tight it be a bumpy ride!
With this experience it’s a case of 'the kids drive the grown ups ride'. Operated as a small group activity there will be up to five children in the tank at any one time with each child taking it in turns to drive. & whilst all this is going on one adult per child will be riding on board as a passenger so everyone gets to experience the full-tracked fun of the FV432.
Kids will love driving this Armoured Personnel Carrier tank. It’s fully-tracked it’s hefty it’s noisy it’s a serious piece of heavy metal. If you weighed it it’d come in at a good 18 tons but despite being a rather large mass of metal the FV432 pulls off a more than respectable 50kph top speed thanks to that beefy Rolls Royce K60 multi-fuel engine.
Inside it’s pretty ‘cosy’ to say the least & it feels like you’re sitting in a big riveted metal tin. But when you think these things were designed to transport soldiers across war zones it’s probably just what you want to be sitting in. It’s bench-style seating in the rear cabin so expect to be jostled about a bit but that’s also what makes tank driving for kids so much fun.
Your tank driving teens will be at the helm of the genuine ex-Army FV432 for around three kilometres driving on rugged terrain. This will give them enough time to get used to the controls & the co-ordination needed (driving with your head out of the hatch can be tricky at first!) & time to discover just what this tank can do. Of course an instructor will be alongside at all times with a remote engine cut off switch installed to avoid any hairy moments.
Junior tank drivers will need to have a certain amount of upper body strength about them to be able to manipulate the controls of the FV432
- after all this is a heavy piece of genuine military equipment.
