Go sea kayaking Dorset style! What could be better than kayaking on the clear blue waters off the Jurassic coast of Dorset? These kayak experiences at Sandbanks offer great paddling combining superb views & the thrill of kayaking.

This Dorset kayak school operates out of the exclusive area of Sandbanks with its lovely family-friendly beach that is really popular when the sun shines. These experiences give you a chance to learn a new watersport have fun on the water & see the Dorset coastline from the sea.

You’ll be using sit-on-top kayaks. These are really stable rugged craft that are easy to manoeuvre & won’t have you worried about wobbling too much. There’s a bit of a knack to getting in them but once you’re sorted you’ll be confident enough to paddle. The qualified instructors will be teaching you all you need to know including safety paddling techniques & how to get in & out of the kayak.

What sets this kayak experience apart is the fact that you’ll be on the sea. Not everywhere in Dorset is suitable for novice sea kayakers but Sandbanks is known for its calm waters so hopefully it won’t be too choppy out there for your first foray into kayaking.

Once you’re up & running there’ll be time for a bit exploring (a paddle around Poole harbour is a favourite) & even a few games out on the water. They’re good fun & a right laugh too with everyone joining in making it a really convivial activity.

As long as you’re an able swimmer (you will also have a buoyancy aid) & are at least eight years old you can have a go at sea kayaking in Dorset. We think it makes a fab day out for all the family to enjoy together & is much more fun than lazing around on the beach all day. All the gear you need is included too & no previous canoe or kayak experience is necessary

Go Segwaying in Thirsk & it's all about the obstacles & the cross country! North Yorkshire is the setting for this experience more specifically a 50-acre outdoor driving & activity centre just outside Thirsk in some rather picture-perfect countryside. With lots going on at this venue each activity has its own sector & you will be orientated towards zone three which has been purpose-built for the Segways. Now these aren't just your standard machine. The X2 model has been developed specifically for outdoor off road use with the additions of things like low pressure tyres & lithium-ion batteries. This means the transporter can tackle rough terrain gripping on grass & gravel with ease & the can go for longer without running out of power. too. There are three parts to these hour long experiences near Thirsk. An initial training period will see you learning how to handle the X2 & mastering slow-speed basic manoeuvres in a small paddock area near to the Segway base. You will then move on to a mown grass section which has been made more complicated with obstacles such as logs & coned-out slalom courses for you to swerve around
- all designed to keep you on your toes! The third part of your session is a cross country mini trek where you will follow the leader on your personal transporter. Heading off through the estate you'll be deftly weaving through the zone's trails & track. This is the moment that paddock & obstacle practice will come good as you tackle the natural bumps & lumps of the l&. We are offering Segway rides in Thirsk for both adults & juniors up to the age of 11 who are at least 4ft tall (from 12 years it's an adult voucher). If you've never even seen a Segway before you're sure to raise an eyebrow when you clap eyes on one for the first time. They sort of look like something from a sci-fi film that's not quite real. After all how can you travel on a little board with wheels like that let along whizz up & down an undulating off road trail? Well funnily enough the answer is in the science of it all. We're talking gyroscopes & Lean Steer technology which makes riding the Segway as simple as 1 2 3 apparently. Having said that you will need a little start up session to familiarise yourself with the Segways so you can get used to the rather supernatural feeling of gliding along. If you've never ridden one before you're sure to be a little bit wobbly to begin with but within minutes most newbie Segwayers are spinning around on their own axis with aplomb & having a lot of fun so it's time to head off on the track. Of course we're not talking about riding around on the actual tarmac race track on your Segway. With a max speed of around 12mph you won't be as quick as all the sports cars out there going considerably faster. Instead this operator has created purpose-built Segway routes around the perimeter areas of these track venues complete with all the bumps hills dips & drops you can wish for. As you'll be equipped with an X2 Seg that's to say one of the specially adapted cross-country models you'll be able to tackle this tricky terrain no problem but just in case all the safety gear you need is provided.
