The blackberry bush is a shrub belonging to the same family as the raspberry which we meet covered with thorns & clinging to hedges, bearing black berries. Known by the Ancient Greeks & the Romans, the blackberry was not discovered in Europe until the 19th century. Picked when they are ripe, the fruit is black, fleshy, shiny, very juicy & a little sharp. This impression is restored by Creme de Mure Briottet which can be successfully served with white wines, cremants & champagnes.
