Delamain's vintage Cognacs originate from the Grande Champagne district, the central part & the first growth of the Cognac appellation. These spirits mature more slowly & achieve greater longevity than Cognacs from the surrounding districts, & develop greater finesse & delicacy. The Grande Champagne 1960 was the first vintage to be secured in Delamain's old vintages cellar; the first bottling was drawn from it at the end of 1992. The Grande Champagne Cognacs from prior vintages are from casks which have been kept in Delamain's cellars since shortly after their distillation, & the oldest of these have been transferred from cask to glass demijohn to arrest their maturation. This cellar is strictly controlled by the BNIC. Situated in Jarnac, on the banks of the Charente river, it benefits from an ideal degree of hygrometry for the ageing of Cognacs. These Cognacs are acquired almost without exception from bouilleurs de cru, small growers who vinify the wines from their vineyards & themselves distil the wine into Cognac. 100% Grande Champagne. A blend of various old Grande Champagne cognacs. Each cognac is aged separately during many long years owing to their origin & then the blend itself, made at the end of the ageing period, is aged for two years more (marriage). Matured in well seasoned Limousin oak casks (350L) & cellared in old cellars near the river, more humid than dry. The blend at natural strength (around 50% vol.) is very slowly broken down at 40% with weak old Grande Champagne at 15% which enriches the blend. A style of delicacy, length, fruitiness & mellowness, a bouquet of power of the perfumes & a length of the fragrance. Floral scents, lingering aftertaste of vanilla (rancio). Mellowness, roundness, age. Intense fruitiness. A colour of extremely clear & bright, brilliant & velvety gold. Spirits Business Master 2010 Pale & Dry, Pale because it is much paler than other cognacs of this age due to the natural pale colour of the cognacs used in the blend which are all matured in old casks & Dry because it has only its natural sweetness. Delamain is one of the last family-owned Cognac houses. This is a beautiful old Cognac made using the best eau-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region
