In 1978, the Marquis Piero Antinori released the vintage 1971 of Tignanello, a table wine which was a blend of the local Sangiovese grape with a small quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon, a non-traditional variety of Tuscany region. At the beginning, it seemed strange that Tignanello, an ex-Regional wine was downgraded to a common table wine without any geographic
Specification. Yet the wine gained global recognition & the international market named it Super Tuscan. So, a legendary wine was born. The story of Tignanello led many others winemakers of Tuscany to imitate the Marquis & therefore the Italian wine legislation followed the trend by creating relevant laws. So, a new category of superior quality wines was born: Super Tuscans that they have been the catalyst for an entire wine country, where pluralism is the key word. In 2007, bearing in mind the story of Super Tuscans & after successful experimentations & micro-vinifications with Syrah grape, we decided to create Gaia S, a blend of Agiorgitiko (70%) & Syrah (30%). You can interpret S whichever way you like; S for Syrah or S for Super Nemea. The grapes are cultivated in our plots on the hillsides of Koutsi in Nemea. Gaia S ages for 12 months in 225lt French oak barrels from Nevers & Allier forests & it is bottled without undergoing any filtering or additional procedures. After bottling, it sits for 5 months before its release on the market. Gaia S is a particularly deep red- black wine with intense aromas & flavours & rich & generous mouth. Syrah enhances the structure & the aromatic profile of the wine by adding complexity. It is a wine that under proper cellar conditions can age for more than a decade.
