Based on the residual sugar level, it can be described as midway between German Kabinet & Spatlese in style. The colour is pale, with a beautiful green apple tint. The nose is quite expressive with flavours ranging from Granny Smith apple & lime, to citrus peel, with gentle floral tones. Generally regarded as restrained, it displays typical Riesling 'nervousness'. The mineral core, which is linked to the shale rich soils in which the vines grow, astounds. Atkin 96! IWC Gold. DWWA Platinum. The Seven Flags Chardonnay 2018 is a great combination between elegance & concentration. The wine shows a light hay hue & the nose is expressive with notes of fresh citrus zest which is complimented by stone fruit & hints of oak. The palate is an exciting combination of crisp citrus fruit with great complexity, concentration & hints of oak in the background. The wine is elegant with a long & lingering finish. Very fortunate to have had four very exceptional successive vintages for Chardonnay. With the 2015 vintage Paul Cluver produced a very elegant Chardonnay that was very tight with great freshness. 2016 was a vintage with great opulence & more richness.
