Rudbeckia Fulgida Goldsturmalso known as Black-eyed Susan or sometimes Coneflower, is a fabulous RHS AGM variety, much loved for its late season flowers which inject fresh colour & life into the garden just as summer flowers are beginning to fade. This hardy perennial has a clump-forming nature, each year returning with a larger clump & more & more flowering stems. These large, daisy-like flowers are bright yellow with a piercing black centre, & sit on upright, sturdy stems, also attracting bees & butterflies. They look wonderful planted in sunny borders among other late-summer flowers, such as echinacea, sedum & nerines or with soft ornamental grasses. Grow rudbeckia plants in sun or semi shade. Rudbeckia enjoys a fertile, preferably heavy soil that is rich in organic matter & well drained. Coneflowers resent drought & dislike soils that dry out in summer. Feed & water rudbeckia plants regularly. Deadhead faded rudbeckia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut plants down to the crown at the end of the season & cover with a dry mulch of straw or wood chippings to protect from winter extremes. Position: Full Sun
