Rudbeckia Fulgida Goldsturmalso known as Black-eyed Susan or sometimes Coneflower, is a fabulous RHS AGM variety, much loved for its late season flowers which inject fresh colour & life into the garden just as summer flowers are beginning to fade. This hardy perennial has a clump-forming nature, each year returning with a larger clump & more & more flowering stems. These large, daisy-like flowers are bright yellow with a piercing black centre, & sit on upright, sturdy stems, also attracting bees & butterflies. They look wonderful planted in sunny borders among other late-summer flowers, such as echinacea, sedum & nerines or with soft ornamental grasses. Grow rudbeckia plants in sun or semi shade. Rudbeckia enjoys a fertile, preferably heavy soil that is rich in organic matter & well drained. Coneflowers resent drought & dislike soils that dry out in summer. Feed & water rudbeckia plants regularly. Deadhead faded rudbeckia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut plants down to the crown at the end of the season & cover with a dry mulch of straw or wood chippings to protect from winter extremes. Position: Full Sun

No garden should be without these sunny flowers. fulgida var. sullivantii Goldsturm - A border favourite, producing masses of long-lived, golden-yellow blooms with dark centres. Vibrant autumn flowers. Ideal for cutting. RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. Flowers August-October. Height 70cm (28); spread 10-50cm (4-20). Supplied in a 9cm pot. Amazingly it was raised as long ago as 1936 in Germany, Goldsturm (translated literally as storm of gold) is still in my opinion in the top 25 of all perennials. A north American native, this Black Eyed Susan is very hardy, adaptable and forms mats of glossy green leaves, followed by black coned, golden petalled flowers for weeks
in late summer. Best in sun where not too dry. Associates well with blue Agapanthus or Geranium Rozanne and Sedum Purple Emperor.
