The Glenlivet distillery is found in Speyside Scotland in a glen surrounded by shadow casting mountain & secluded from the busy troubles of the outside world. The distillery is built at a higher altitude to most, meaning that during the distillation process the brew will boil a lot quicker & help the whisky distil better & therefore create the unique taste of Glenlivet. Also due to it being located on such high ground it means it experiences a variety of different weather conditions, for the hottest sun to the harshest winter wind. There is no colder place in Britain or one where the air is so pure, & this helps create the pure fresh water that is at the heart of the whisky. The Glenlivet 12 year old was the first in the Glenlivet range. It has defining fruity pineapple note from the sma' stills lives on to this day in the George smith's definitive legacy of the Glenlivet. The 12 year old is a bright & lively gold colour & on the nose it is exquisite delicacy of summer-like fragrances with playful interlacing of floral & fruity aromas. A sensuous touch of exotic fruit notably pineapple. In time it opens with creamier & richer notes of stewed greengages & ripe apricots. Oak tenderly enhances that enticing bouquet with more vanilla & nutty notes & an echo of toasted oats. On the palate you get honeyed floral notes, a silky feel flowing on the tongue with a smooth & sweet fruit note of white peaches & pears poached in vanilla syrup. On the finish there are flavours of Marzipan & fresh hazelnut followed by gentle spiciness of grated ginger.
