It is a big, smoky malt whisky with rich, concentrated vanilla & spice character that combines Highland single malt whiskies aged on the highest quality, new French oak, with a heavy-peated Islay single malt. & for the first time, we add to this limited edition of Flaming Heart a small portion of whiskies aged in sherry casks, providing added layers of richness & complexity. Hedonism is unusual in the Scotch whisky world: a blended grain Scotch whisky. It is very rare to see 100% grain whisky bottlings, in Scotl&. Going back 100 years, grain whisky brands were more common, but they were overtaken in popularity by the big brands of blended Scotch, which comprised both grain whisky & malt whisky. Today, most Scotch grain whisky gets blended into the big brand names, typically at young ages. For Hedonism, we search for old casks of Scotch grain whisky. & we only produce Hedonism once a year, when we find casks with the right flavour profile. Flavour Descriptors: Elegant flavours of vanilla cream, toffee, coconut. Recommendations: As an aperitif, serve with a small amount of chilled water. Late in the evening, serve neat. Also makes a great whisky sour. Have you ever tasted really good grain whisky from Scotland? Unless you've tried the stuff in the bottle to the left, you probably have not. Most people haven't, even many serious whisky lovers. Almost no one bottles it! I believe that great grain whiskies from well chosen casks are the undiscovered treasures of Scotland's whisky kingdom. That's why I created this whisky called Hedonism! Hedonism is our award winning blend of grain whiskies. Stylistically, this is, (in my humble opinion), a beautiful drink: supple, silky, with elegant, rich flavours of vanilla, toffee, coconut & cocoa. It's also a rare whisky in that it's composed of the most perfectly mature casks of grain whisky we can find, & also because it always contains at least some component whiskies from Cambus. Cambus was sadly shut in the early 1990s, but is beloved by blenders for its soft, sweet style. Grain whiskies have been made in Scotland going back to the early part of the 1800s. They are the elegant, almost feminine alter ego to Scotland's malt whiskies. Most people think of them as the 'filler' whiskies in the well-known, commercial blends, but this is far from the whole story. Each grain whisky distillery in Scotland makes a distinctive spirit. & the best grain whiskies--from great casks--are some of the silkiest, sweetest, most mouth-wateringly delicious whiskies in the world. Hedonism is like nothing that's been bottled before in Scotl&. No one has ever made a vatted grain (a blend of single grain whiskies from different distilleries) that shows off how delicious Scottish grain whiskies can be! Made entirely of Highland single malt whiskies led by Teaninich & balanced with malts from other distilleries from the villages of Brora (for fruitiness) & Carron (for weight). All the whiskies are aged Approx. 10 years-old. All the whiskies are aged for their primary maturation in a mix of American oak cask types. The marrying casks are a mix of first-fill Bourbon barrels & our proprietary Oak Cross casks made from American & new French oaks.. Type: Vatted Malt (a blend of single malts from different distilleries) Tasting Notes: The aroma is a highly aromatic combination of fruit, spice & marine peatiness in the form of a beach bonfire. Adding water brings out aromas that remind you of burning ropes & a touch of iodine. In the mouth it is very full on the palate, rich & loaded with flavour: a bacon-fat smokiness, full-blown peat, a maltiness, hints of fruit & spice. The finish goes on seemingly forever, echoing peat & smoke for several minutes after you've had a sip. Details: 46%, not chill filtered, natural colour Drinking Recommendations: More of an after dinner & into-the-late-hours-of-the-evening-type of whisky. Drink it neat or with a few splashes of (bottled, preferably) water. Excellent with certain kinds of blue vein cheeses. John's Notes: This one's for the real peat heads, & for lovers of complex, multilayered malt whisky. What makes it fit into the Compass Box house style is the balance of richness & subtle sweetness that the old casks of Ardmore provide to the smoky-peaty Caol Ila. As with all our whiskies, several months of marrying allow all the flavours of each of the whiskies to knit together to form what is our biggest & most complex offering. Not over the top, (that's just not our style), but big, complex & balanced.
