Pitu is a Brazilian spirit made from pure sugar cane. Only the sugar-cane juice from the first pressings is used for export. This juice contains the fresh, pure taste. Colour: Red with a violet & pink hue. Nose: Distinctly fruity, offering strawberries, cherries, figs, ginger & fruit drops. Typical of wines produced in the Vittoria area. Palate: Medium bodied & dry, fruit driven with a supple, long finish. Very fresh & fruity, the tannins are never overpowering. Strawberries, cherries & figs abound on this fresh & supple snapshot of Mediterranean Island life. Drink on release & for up to 3 years. Flavoured dishes such as stewed fish, white meat dishes & soft cheeses. The grapes were harvested on the 30th September & immediately destemmed & crushed before spending 8 days macerating on the skins. On the palate, the wine is silky smooth, light & fresh with no angularity & a beautiful finish. This wine has few limits: excellent as aperitif, with light pasta dishes or even with fruit, fillet of grouper with tomatoes, spaghetti alla Norma, warm octopus & potato salad, pasta with fresh tuna & courgettes, sea-food, oysters, raw sword fish & sushi, salami made with black Nebrodi pork, fresh hard tuma cheese. The Syrah grapes come from the Planeta familys Dispensa winery & are harvested slightly earlier than usual.
