Bruichladdich Bere Barley is the newest whiskey to be released from Bruichladdich & has been created in traditional Bruichladdich style with a fantastic story behind it involving Vikings, exploring, the ancient world & supposedly the original species of Barley. Bere Barley is said to be the first form of barley ever, brought over to Islay when the Vikings came centuries ago. It is a much denser & richer form of barley than the modern style, which caused a lot of distilling problems at the Bruichladdich distillery. However it is the latest installation of the core mission at Bruichladdich, which is to push & explore the boundaries of single malts. Distilled my Master Distiller Jim Mc Ewan, & aged for around 6 years, this single malt is a new breed of whisky, which like most new breeds, comes in short supply & normally not for too long, especially with only 7, 200 bottles being distilled from this first batch. It is an unpeated whisky that has the colour of straw & like all Bruichladdich products, it has not been chill filtered nor had any artificial colouring added to it. ...

Bruichladdich Black Art 3 was distilled in 1989 giving it an age statement of 22 year old. This is the third edition in Bruichladdich Black Art Series & entirely distilled by Jim Mc Ewan. It has been aged in ex bourbon American oak casks & casks that previously held wine. The design on the bottle is brilliantly appealing, which is very common among Bruichladdich products, it has been designed to replicated its name & does it superbly. On the nose Bruichladdich is full of aromas, with the first being vanilla pods & chocolate raisins. Then the wine flavour begins to come through following the chocolate raisins bringing hints of nuts along with it. If you wish to add a drop of water, then the story of the flavours becomes completely different. You can detect plump, ripe blueberries with little hints of cinnamon & aniseed joins in harmoniously. You can then detect a strong flavour of oak & finally vanilla notes come rushing through after waiting their turn to impart their character. On the palate the power of the oak gives structure to the spirit, ensuring that the whole character can be experienced. The finish is long & lasting with the flavours complementing each other rather than doing battle, making it beautifully smooth on the throat rather than the normal burn that you get from a lot of Whiskies. ...

The Cuvee 407 PX has been aged in American oak casks & then further matured in rare Jerez Butts that for decades has held the unctuous & ultra rich sherry made from the Moorish Pedro Ximenez (PX) grape. Casks that held the PX grape have been revered by whisky distillers for the Madeira cake richness they bring to the maturing spirit. The ones used at the Bruichladdich distillery are extracted from the Fernanado De Castilla Solera making them the very highest in quality. ...

The Cuvee 640 has been given a subtitled name of ‘ Oh mensch gieb acht! Was spricht die tiefe mitternacht? This is the opening line from a song in Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The Cuvee 640 has been aged in American oak casks & then further matured in Limousin oak casks from acquitaine that for many years contained one of the great eaux de vie. These casks tannins have added new layers of rich complexity to Bruichladdichs own elegant, floral Bruichalddich whisky. This is a whisky to enjoy & reflect on, chill out & sip on while having a quiet moment to yourself. ...

Bruichladdich Black Art 2 21 Year 1989 Whisky 70cl

The Bruichladdich distillery is owned by the 3 Harvey brothers who built the distillery in 1881. The Harvey family has over a century of whisky distilling ownership in their family. The three brothers have a strong belief that the whisky industry has been stifled by industrialisation and self-interest. Companies now days try and do things the quickest way possible but at Bruichladdich they believe that taking time and using authentic equipment is the best way to make their single malts. The single malts are made from Scottish barley and when it comes to maturing the single malts, the boys at Bruichladdich use oak casks. These perform the vital task of allowing the evolution of the spirit by way of subtle and complex interactions between the micro-oxidation of the whiskies flavour
compounds. Oak tannins extracted from the wood, the ozone-marine influence of the air absorbed through the wood and the whisky texture. The black magic series two is the second release in the now legendary black art series and now at 21 years old even more an enigma than a first release. Jim Mcewan is the master creator of this bewitching dram. He created it in the stygian darkness of warehouse No.12. It is a dark sensuous spirit, very fine, incredibly elegant, perplexingly complex, mischievously prepared and subtly provocative. The colour is of a cornelian flame and on the nose its is an opening bouquet of cherry blossom and deep red rose gives way to a rainbow of soft ripe red fruits. This is then followed by an opening sensation of toasted oak sweet malted barley providing
structure and strength. On the palate there is a harmony of flavours merging both the nose and the palate and delivering a totally unique malt experience like no other.
