The Bruichladdich distillery is owned by the 3 Harvey brothers who built the distillery in 1881. The Harvey family has over a century of whisky distilling ownership in their family. The three brothers have a strong belief that the whisky industry has been stifled by industrialisation & self-interest. Companies now days try & do things the quickest way possible but at Bruichladdich they believe that taking time & using authentic equipment is the best way to make their single malts. The single malts are made from Scottish barley & when it comes to maturing the single malts, the boys at Bruichladdich use oak casks. These perform the vital task of allowing the evolution of the spirit by way of subtle & complex interactions between the micro-oxidation of the whiskies flavour compounds. Oak tannins extracted from the wood, the ozone-marine influence of the air absorbed through the wood & the whisky texture. The black magic series two is the second release in the now legendary black art series & now at 21 years old even more an enigma than a first release. Jim Mcewan is the master creator of this bewitching dram. He created it in the stygian darkness of warehouse No.12. It is a dark sensuous spirit, very fine, incredibly elegant, perplexingly complex, mischievously prepared & subtly provocative. The colour is of a cornelian flame & on the nose its is an opening bouquet of cherry blossom & deep red rose gives way to a rainbow of soft ripe red fruits. This is then followed by an opening sensation of toasted oak sweet malted barley providing structure & strength. On the palate there is a harmony of flavours merging both the nose & the palate & delivering a totally unique malt experience like no other.
