Glenmorangie Nectar D' Or is a whisky with a bit of a spin of it. The first thing to mention is the name, there are many explanations for why it is called Nectar D' Or. We would like to believe this is the real reason, that ‘ Or' means gold Gaelic & ‘ Nectar' is the drink of the Gods of course. Either way this is a captivating single malt whisky with the sophistication of luxury spirit drinkers who enjoy delicious extravagant & sensual flavours. The Nectar D' Or is Glenmorangie's attempt at an experiment using different casks. After a minimum of 10 years in ex-bourbon casks, the whisky of the Nectar D' Or is then taken out & extra matured in specially hand selected Sauternes wine barrels. Sauternes is the most famous & ancient sweet wine growing region of France, that helps this whisky develop its rich, spicy & dessert-like flavours. The whisky is a honeyed gold colour with aromas of lime & orange rind, sultanas & dates give fruity flavour laced with tantalising spices of nutmeg. On the palate this whisky has flavours of ginger, nutmeg & toasted almonds, bringing a deep warming taste interwoven with a syrupy lemon meringue & honeycomb middle. The finish is long & lusciously sweet with lemon zest, white chocolate, vanilla & traces of ginger & nutmeg.
