Sandeman's Founders Reserve was named in honour of the founder of Sandeman's. The grapes used in this port are hand picked undergoing stalk removal & crushing before fermentation. Fermentation occurs under controlled temperature with skin maceration in order to extract the best components. Also the addition of wine alcohol is added at the ideal moment to set the balance between the wines body & bouquet. After the harvest the wine alcohol remains in Douro until the following spring when they are taken to Sandeman's headquarters for ageing in oak wood casks. Throughout the years the wines are carefully tasted & analysed by the oenology team who also makes all necessary correction & prepares the final blend so as to keep Sandeman port founders reserve style & character. The wines selected for the blend are aged between 3-5 years being filtered & cold-stabilised prior to bottling.
