Limited stock. Peter Lehmann has led a colourful life. He created one of Australia's most respected & popular wine brands by defying accepted wisdom, courting near misses & narrow scrapes & never shirking the opportunity to challenge a norm. This range is a reflection of the colour & fun experienced as PL has lived his dream, with all his art & soul. The Peter Lehmann Chardonnay philosophy is about making a delicate, soft, refreshing style & letting the natural fruit flavours come to the fore. Fruit is sourced from the low lying Barossa Valley floor to the cool, high Eden Valley delivering a wine with depth of flavour & a stylish, taut structure. Wild ferments, some French oak maturation & yeast lees stirring add a touch of complexity to this elegant wine style. A blend from Barossa Valley (69%) & Eden Valley (31%) mature Chardonnay vineyards. It makes a splendid accompaniment to roast chicken or pork or creamy pasta dishes. ...

The Barossa Valley, with its warm lingering summers, is a natural home for the noble rot, Botrytis Cinera. What can be a grapegrowers curse is masterfully crafted in this luscious wine that shows the beauty & diversity of the Semillon grape. The history of this wine dates back to winemaker Andrew Wigan's visit to the iconic Chateau d' Yquem in 1981, home to the world's greatest sweet wine. His time in their vineyards & winery inspired him to recreate the style in the Barossa.. A beautiful bright gold colour which will deepen with bottle age. It has wonderful tropical fruit aromas with just a hint of citrus. It is a truly harmonious wine with a delicious lusciousness on the middle palate counterbalanced by tantalizingly complex acidity, the hallmark of botrytis wine. With creamy blue vein or washed rind cheeses. A delicious accompaniment for fruit flans, warm winter puddings & great with scrambled eggs for a luxurious brunch. Can be cellared for 20 plus years. ...

The Barossa is an ideal region for late harvest style white wines given the quality of Semillon in the region & the warm weather conditions that continue well into late vintage. Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan had the good fortune of winning a trip to visit France in 1982 at vintage time & enjoyed a rare opportunity of spending time in the vineyards at Chateau d Yquem
- unquestionably then, & still today, home to the greatest sweet white table wine in the world. Walking through the vineyards he could see the same deterioration in the grapes that he had seen in the fruit being received at our own winery back in the Barossa! What he had assumed to be common spoilage in extremely ripe Semillon in fact was Noble Rot
- Botrytis Cinerea. Andrew returned armed with the confidence that what we were experiencing in our vineyards in the Barossa was identical to what hed seen in Sauternes. He was determined to master Noble Rot & create Peter Lehmann Wines own expression of Botrytis Semillon. 25 years on from that moment of inspiration in the vineyards of Chateau d Yquem, we are convinced our Botrytis Semillon is a Barossa classic. A beautiful bright gold colour which will deepen with bottle age. It has wonderful tropical fruits aroma with just a hint of citrus. It is a truly harmonious wine with a delicious lusciousness on the middle palate counterbalanced by tantalisingly complex acidity, the hallmark of a botrytised wine.

The Hill & Valley Series wines honour the greatness of our growers' vineyards that have defined quality at Peter Lehmann Wines since our foundation in 1979. Each vintage we keep certain parcels of fruit separate & release them as individual wines. We believe these wines to be a true expression of the varietal characters & unique terroir of the vineyards from which they are made. This single site Chardonnay displays the wonderful diversity of the Barossa region. Grapes were sourced from the Zander family property tucked away high up in the Eden Valley in the Eastern Barossa Ranges. Their vineyard is planted with the superior Bernard clones & the site is particularly cool, perched on a steep east facing slope, on lean rocky soils. This is an early picked, delicate Chardonnay with a fine green, gold tinge & a lovely balance of fruit complexity derived from careful barrel fermentation & maturation. It is a wine that will develop beautifully over the next 4-5 years during which time it will become a deeper gold colour & richer in flavour. Careful winemaking & cool barrel maturation have preserved the piercing & pristine flavours from this site. ...

Still very lively & fresh showing good citrus notes also hints of macadamia nut characters & beginnings of a light smokiness as a consequence of bottle development. Still a remarkably tight, zesty & youthful wine with a superb structure & length. Time in the bottle has deepened the lime citrus & honey dew fruit flavours which fill out the mouth while finishing clean & dry. PETER LEHMANN - Eight Songs Shiraz 2005 75cl Bottle

The colour is beautiful dark cherry with a rich garnet rim. The nose is all deep chocolate, dark forest fruits with some spicy notes. The palate is richly opulent, beautifully structured with layered, fully integrated tannins supporting the depth of fruit. It is truly a Royal wine from a great red wine vintage year. It is a limited edition classical Barossa Shiraz from low-yielding vineyards. Low yielding, mature shiraz vineyards in the Stonewell and Light Pass districts of the Barossa Valley. Fermented & macerated on skins for up to 2 weeks with some partial barrel fermentation. Following pressing and clarification, the wine was matured in French oak hogsheads for approximately 18 months. Eight Songs Shiraz sings with rare roast beef, rich casseroles, beef and game pies, and,
of course, a great aged cheddar. Eight Songs Shiraz was born of our love of art and music and inspired by an operatic work, Eight Songs for Mad King, first performed in the Barossa in 1993. The Barossa stands amongst the great wine regions of the world. From this region, Shiraz can express diversity in flavour, style and texture. The diverse terroir of our growers Barossa vineyards is reflected in the character of our wines. Soils, elevations and vine age vary from one vineyard to the next. The heart of Eight Songs lies in the old Shiraz vineyards spread across the landscape of the Barossa. During the vintage, we walk these vineyards, which typically yield less than 2.5 tons per acre, tasting the fruit, seeking the concentrated flavours we need for this style of Shiraz. With
Eight Songs we show an elegant and distinctly softer side to Barossa Shiraz. Fermented and matured in 100% new French oak hogsheads the palate shows dark plums, choc/ mocha notes with hints of vanillin undertones. The seamless integration of opulent fruit and velvety tannins creates an elegant expression of Barossa Shiraz at its sensuous best.
