This delightful compact Forsythia Intermedia ‘Nimbus’ may be on the slightly smaller side, but it makes an impressively big impact in the garden in early spring when it erupts into a profusion of vibrant yellow blooms and rich foliage. Container grown plants will require annual dressing with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser and regular watering throughout the summer months. Border grown plants will require less attention. In late spring after flowering has finished, prune Forsythia by cutting back all flowered shoots to a healthy pair of leaves. On established Forsythia plants, cut back up to a fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to encourage healthy new growth and improve flowering. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning.
